Wife Mrinalini Devi passes away, Sri Aurobindo is 47 years old

Mrinalini passes away in Calcutta at the age of 32, having fallen victim to influenza which sweeps over India that year. She was at long last on her way from Ranchi when she caught this fever in Calcutta and succumbed to it. Earlier, in 1916, her father had made a serious attempt after his retirement from Government service to take her to Pondicherry, but the attitude of Government at the time prevented him from realizing this wish.
