The difficulty of interpreting the symbols contained in spiritual texts like the Vedas lies in their spiritual content. These symbols are there only to remind us of the knowledge-experience, which is behind them. But most of the symbols speak about things that have not been experienced by the reader.

This series intends to highlight some of the elements of a deeper psychological and spiritual significance of the most ancient scripture of the world the Rigveda.

Sri Aurobindo writes: “Since our earliest ages the Veda has been, in the invincible tradition of our race, the bedrock of all our creeds; in this our goddess of veiled and ancient speech we have always persisted in seeing the fruitful mother of all our Indian spirituality.”

For Sri Aurobindo, the Veda is a Book of Knowledge, an inspiration, the spiritual imagery of which he used in his own magnum opus Savitri. We shall examine the spiritual symbolism of the Rigveda in the Light of Sri Aurobindo.

The topics of the ten sessions are as follows:

1) The Shift of Paradigms: From the Veda and Vedanta to the Gita and Tantra

2) Foundation of Vedic Knowledge

3) Reconstruction of Vedic Knowledge in the light of Sri Aurobindo

4) Symbolism of Vedic Imagery: The Foundations of the Psychological Theory

5) The Secret of the Veda: A  Legend of Angiras Rishis and Recovery of Hidden Treasures

6) The Vedic Myths of Creation. Purusha, Hiranya Garbha and Nasadiya Suktas

7) Agni – The Mystic Flame of Sacrifice. The Colloquy of Indra and Agastya

8) The Gods and Godheads of the Rigveda – their Psychological and Spiritual Significance
