New Perspectives, Part IV: Mahasaraswati - Divine Mother of Perfection and Order

Sri Aurobindo – “Mahasaraswati is the Mother’s Power of Work and her spirit of perfection and order. The science and craft and technique of things are Mahasaraswati’s province. Always she holds in her nature and can give to those whom she has chosen the intimate and precise knowledge, the subtlety and patience, the accuracy of intuitive mind and conscious hand and discerning eye of the perfect worker.”

In this presentation on Mahasaraswati, emphasis will be laid on her Vedic significance given in Sri Aurobindo’s work, “The Secret of the Veda.”

Sri Aurobindo writes, “The symbolism of the Veda betrays itself with the greatest clearness in the figure of the goddess Saraswati…she is, plainly and clearly, the goddess of the Word, the goddess of a divine Inspiration.”

The Vedic age, was full of the Rishis’ illumined wisdom that “utter their secret meanings to the seer.” The verses of the Vedas acted therefore as symbols of higher spiritual truths.

The symbolism in the figure of Saraswati and her consorts, has been clearly explained by Sri Aurobindo who reveals to the reader, the truth hidden behind the Word – just as the ancient seer-rishis.
