Foundations of Meditation, a meditative practice

The goal of this meditation class is to build a strong foundation for meditation and for a conscious, spiritualized approach to life. Developing the powers of concentration, breath work and mindful awareness help the individual to bring their nature under conscious control and to a state of conscious self-mastery. You will be trained in inner awareness, inner alertness and in mental attitudes that support yogic self-development: dispassion, acceptance, sincerity, discernment, and self-surrender.

Each meditation class incorporates the practices of Rāja Yoga, the traditional steps of meditation enumerated in the Yoga Sūtras of Patañjali: āsana (posture), prānāyāma (expansion of the life principle or prāna), pratyāhāra (sense withdrawal), and dhāranā (concentration on a divine object), which in turn facilitate dhyāna (unbroken flow of awareness towards the object) and samādhi (full identified union with the object).

This meditation session is conducted by Dr. Girija Shettar and hosted by La Grace Center.

Please note that Girija also offers one-on-one and group classes as single sessions or longer-term programs. Her current students are studying to develop concentration, mindful awareness, and her 10-week program, which includes textual study and discussion along with meditation learning and practice.
