Marries Mrinalini Devi (age 29)
Amidst the intense political activities somehow the thought of marriage enters Sri Aurobindo’s mind and he marries Mrinalini Devi in April 1901. She is beautiful, educated and belongs to an aristocratic family. But soon he sends Mrinalini back to her family as he becomes more actively involved in India’s independence struggle. In a long letter to her, he explains his life’s work and how he was unable to be with her more.
Sri Aurobindo’s letter to his wife and his 3 madnesses
After Sri Aurobindo leaves Bengal in 1910, the two never meet again but remain deeply connected. Mrinalini devotes the years apart from her husband almost exclusively to meditation and the reading of religious literature which consists of the writings of Swami Vivekananda and the teachings of his Great Master.
