The Upanishads are the earliest expositions of spiritual philosophy in India and the world, rendered in verse or rhythmic prose of the highest cadence and quality. The Upanishads bring the profoundest existential knowledge into a spiritually fulfilling, whole-being experience of the committed reader and is therefore far more effective for spiritual growth than abstract logical reasoning. An issue that has afflicted religious as well as philosophical thought the world over is the emergence of irreconcilable antinomies or oppositions in the apperception of the complex and multi-dimensional reality through the mental-epistemological lens of man. We examine some of these briefly and begin to appreciate how the Upanishads have consummated an uncompromising reconciliation of these uncompromising opposites.
